Opera West Society is proud to announce the launch of the University of British Columbia Opera Student Performance Legacy Fund — a new initiative dedicated to shaping the future of the UBC Opera program. This fund will strengthen student performance opportunities by supporting guest stage directors and providing scholarships that empower emerging artists to excel both on stage and beyond. We invite you to join us in nurturing the next generation of operatic talent. Your contribution to the Legacy Fund will directly support UBC Opera students’ artistic growth and help ensure that this world-class program continues to thrive for years to come.
In Memory of Donald Lumb
Opera West Society gratefully acknowledges those who have made donations in memory of Donald Lumb, honouring his memory through their support of music and opera.
Donald became a pillar of the Canadian life insurance industry, a businessman whose work will continue to make a lasting impact on the lives of his many clients and their families. Donald was also known for his support and love of the arts and music. He had a beautiful baritone voice and had many professional singing engagements including performances with the CBC Orchestra and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He also won the Vancouver round of the Metropolitan Opera auditions. He performed in many benefit concerts and fundraisers. His donations and support to Opera West and UBC Opera and Voice Divisions have been influential in advancing the education and careers of many of Western Canada’s talented young singers. He will be remembered by us all, with enduring love and gratitude.
